This position will support the Furbearer Management Program in Region 5. The technician will assist with two field projects, one to estimate bobcat occupancy and density using noninvasive techniques, and another to estimate muskrat occupancy in a variety of aquatic habitats. Additional responsibilities will include assisting with river otter sign surveys as well as other furbearer surveys (using camera traps and snow tracking), entering, organizing, and summarizing data, maintaining databases, issuing trapping permits, and collecting biological samples from furbearer carcasses provided by trappers. Throughout the year, the technician will assist other programs with wildlife surveys, respond to public requests for hunting/trapping information, and provide technical assistance on nuisance, injured, or distressed wildlife.
Job Function

Salary Range:
From $17.69 to $17.69 Hourly
Minimum Qualification
30 semester credit hours, including 12 semester credit hours in fisheries; marine resources or wildlife management; mariculture; marine biology; aquaculture; aquatic, marine or terrestrial ecology; zoology; marine technology; botany; limnology; hydrology; or oceanography. Preferred Qualifications include:
experience with noninvasive survey techniques including camera traps and hair snares, telemetry techniques, GPS, ArcGIS. Experience using 4WD trucks, ATVs, and snowmobiles preferred. Rabies vaccine is preferred.Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
